Hooray for the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter!

One of the 18 available cutting dies is this unique tumbler block with special notched corners. I have never had a desire to work with this particular shape due to the time involved to alternate my ruler back and forth to cut this tricky angle. Even though the tumbler blocks are sewed together in rows, the quilt is practically done. But since it is a cinch to cut accurate (key word here) blocks with the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter this quilt was a dream to cut and sew!

I decided to time the total time it would take me to cut all the blocks. How long would it take you?

It took only 28 minutes to cut this entire quilt. (Actually I cut enough blocks for two quilts!) The original plan was to select pink and green colors for a baby quilt for my friend Libby who was due April 2009. Following her color scheme, we selected colors that would coordinate with her nursery.

With the corners already notched, it is a breeze to sew accurate 1/4” seams along these slightly bias edges without them getting stretched out of shape.

Once the quilting was done, I decided to add a touch of embroidery with the simple line drawings of birds similar to the nursery decor she has chosen. The embroidery designs were embroidered with no stabilizer through the quilt back and batting for added interest.
