Your sewing cabinet journey might have started because your back is hurting when you sew or maybe because you now have a room you are able to claim as your sewing studio. Whatever the situation, you want to pick out the right one for your type of sewing.sewing-cabinet-4

Pick Your Style

  • Would you like it to completely close it up when it is not in use?
  • Will you be leaving it open all the time?
  • Should it have space for a serger next to your sewing machine?
  • Do you need storage for threads, sewing tools and fabric?

Shopping Hints – Things to look for in a quality sewing cabinet:

  • Locking casters
  • Does it come fully assembled or will you need to assemble it?
  • How many extra drawers should it have?
  • Extra drop leaf extension for a larger work surface.
  • Can you sit directly in front of the needle of the sewing machine when it is positioned in the cabinet’s opening. A cabinet’s sewing machine opening should be positioned to the right of center. This will allow the user adequate space to sit directly in front of the sewing machine needle. Always sit at a cabinet prior to purchase to check for proper height, space and comfort.
  • Do you need a cutting table?
  • Do you need a sewing cabinet for your serger too?

Your Sewing Chair

Take a look at what you are sitting on while you are sewing. Once you purchase a new sewing cabinet, we recommend that a new sewing chair should also be considered.

We carry a specialized sewing chair designed for sewers by sewers. There is no way to describe our chairs other than when people sit in them they feel the difference. This is why we use the chairs we sell in our classroom. Many students end of buying the chair they have been sitting in because they can’t believe the difference.
