Confetti Flowers Workshop

We Carry
by Sara Snuggerud in Embroidery

IMG_3351Recently we hosted another Anita Goodesign workshop titled “Confetti Flowers”. We had over 36 people create these unique stand alone confetti flowers with their embroidery machine. Those that did not own an embroidery machine had one provided for them. Watch this video to see how to use snippets of threads, ribbons and other fun textures to create one-of-a-kind flowers.

All students enjoyed finishing their projects in class. No one likes to take home a project unfinished!

First, water-soluble stabilizer is hooped. The embroidery machine stitches an outline of the flower. Using the embroidered appliqué techniques, colorful fabric is placed over the stitched area.

Next each person took a trip to the confetti bar!

Here students found many types of fibers, threads, ribbons and even scraps of mylar to sprinkle over the flower area. After placing a piece of tulle over the fibers they used blue painters tape to hold it in place. Next the machine stitched the flower outline again.

Using appliqué scissors the flower fabric and fibers were trimmed down close to the stitching line.  Then it was all up to the embroidery machine to finish the flower outline. Once completed the water-soluble stabilizer was trimmed down and ready for its final dip in a sink of water.

Confetti flowers can be added to bags, garments, or used for decorations in a room. On the confetti flowers CD from Anita Goodesign additional designs of flowers can be stitched as stand-alone designs or on fabric. Additional connecting pieces are also included to turn blocks into a quilt.

Check out Heirloom Creations list of scheduled upcoming Anita Goodesign workshops if you have an important machine we went to check out how to use an embroidery machine prior to making a purchase.
