Do Sergers Scare You?

We Carry
by Sara Snuggerud in Serger

April is National Serger Month! If sergers scare you, April is the perfect month to get yours out of the box, give your serger a little love by having it serviced or start thinking about buying your very first serger.

Sergers can be very scary. Whether you picked one up at a garage sale, one was given to you, or maybe you bought one and never took it out of the box, there are many reasons people don’t use their sergers. Mostly it’s because they are scared of it.

Scared of a little ‘ol serger? Sounds a little silly doesn’t it? But it is true. We talk to people each week that own a serger and do not use it for one reason or another. They also say they do not know what to use it for.

Heirloom Creations is the only store in the area that offers scheduled beginning serger classes.

We have found if serger owners take just one class they will find a new bond and friendship with their serger they need knew was possible. Check out the current class schedule for the next set of serger classes and workshops.

Sergers are the “microwave” of the sewing room. They will save you time and make your sewing more efficient. Just like a microwave we also do not use it for everything. (We do not cook Thanksgiving dinner in it)! We will teach you when and how the best times are to use a serger to help speed up the sewing project. It also will make your seams look 10 times more professional. And if you are sewing knits or anything stretchy, a serger is a MUST.

Did you know we have a serger master on staff? Click here to meet Sara Snuggerud, a serger master since she was 15 years old!

Between her hands-on classes, her serger YouTube videos, and the debut of her serger Craftsy online course, there is no excuse for not taking advantage of the expertise right here in your area.

With the release of Sara’s Craftsy Serger class “Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques” many people have been asking why she selected the Bernina 1150MDA to use on set? The main reason this brand and model were selected was that it was the quietest serger we have. She knew there would be times when she would be talking while running the serger. She did not want there to be any extra background noise that was necessary for the camera crew to deal with.

Did you know you can even quilt on a serger?

Sara’s 1-Hour Serger Quilt video has been viewed over 100K times!

If you have leftover batting and fabric strips approximately 6″ side, this can be the perfect baby quilt or charity quilt. And a serger makes it go twice as fast. This quilt-as-you-go method is super easy and can be completed by even a beginner serger owner.

Go Behind the Scenes

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to film the “Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques” Craftsy class.
