Meet Sara’s Shadow

We Carry
by Sara Snuggerud in Sewing Tips

I had the pleasure of being asked to be shadowed at work by Codi Stirling this past week.

Codi’s first quilt – age 8.

I first met Codi when she attended her first Kids Quilt Camp when she was 8 years old. She returned back each summer making a different quilt each time. She is now a 9th grader at Parker High School in South Dakota.

Codi reminds me a lot of how I got started in the sewing industry as a teenager myself.

A couple of years ago her mom surprised her with a Husqvarna Viking Jade 35 for her birthday and she has been sewing and embroidering ever since!

Codi is 3rd from the left.

She has been spotted skipping school to attend a Kimberbell Academy or two. (Don’t tell her teachers)! This straight “A” student can handle being away from school a day or two to work on her sewing skills. I was surprised to learn she is almost fluent in Spanish and starting her second foreign language this year, French!

Codi is 4th from the left.
Codi gave away LOTS of the Kimberbell Candy Heart Pockets for Valentine’s Day one year.

After spending two days with me, the main thing she noticed was how we answered so many DIFFERENT questions on so many DIFFERENT sewing machines models!

“How do you keep all the machine models straight!”

We let her listened in to many of our phone calls as customers called in with sewing machine problems. Not one of them had the same question or received the same answer!

We trouble shooted a handful of computer embroidery software questions for customers.

We answered SewingMastery e-mails and many social media posts on our many Facebook pages and groups.

She helped me with a very FULL 16 student hands-on Ruler Work Basics class.

She ate lunch with me when I finally had time to sit down to take a bite and then get called away with another phone call on how to copy and paste embroidery files to a USB stick.

We ended our Saturday together by taking all the display quilts off one wall of the classroom and hanging new ones in preparation for the following week’s 100+ student Sewtopia Sewing Club.

Every day is a new day at Heirloom Creations. No day is a repeat.

Codi says she would love to work at Heirloom Creations in the future.
