What is Scrim?

Scrim is a very light weight binder that is added to batting for strength during the manufacturing process. Battings that contain scrim are generally more stable and have less stretch than those without scrim. Legacy battings with scrim binder allows stitched areas up to 8”-10” due to the durability of the added scrim.

Long arm quilters enjoy using battings with scrim to keep battings from stretching during the rolling process.

It is not recommended to hand quilt through batting with scrim.

If using a batting with scrim, place the scrim side closest to the backing fabric.

If you choose a batting with scrim it is sure to fill the needs of any machine quilter whether long arm or home sewer.
