Sara’s New Sewing Studio

We Carry
by Sara Snuggerud in Sewing Tips

Thanks to a little water in the basement last Spring, one of our rooms got a re-do. Over the past couple weeks it went from the cement slab to perfection, with a big thanks to Steve. Scroll down to see the beginning to finish process.

With all the new videos we have been making for Heirloom Creations, it was decided we should have a devoted video production room. That way I can just sit down, do a quick video on a new product or technique without any extra set up.

What was the deciding factor for each item in the room?

The Horn Quilter’s Dream sewing cabinet was the perfect size to leave completely opened up at all times.

The Horn cutting table was from my original sewing room – a total must!

The iron board had to be upgraded from my hotel-style light weight board to a board that could stand still on the new plush carpet from Thornton Flooring in Tea, SD.

Sound board on 2 1/2 walls to pin up quilts.

The Perfect Sewing Chair – available from Heirloom Creations for $399.

TV for the little one to hang out with mom and watch “toons”.

True color lighting for accurate fabric colors and ease of sewing on dark fabrics and at night.

Carpet vs hard wood floors? – I am a carpet girl. I love sitting on the floor to study books and magazines.

On a side note – I left off the knobs on the new sewing cabinet drawer so Kate won’t know how to get into it. 🙂 So far so good.

Martha Stewart “Sea Glass Green” paint – Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have so much color in my sewing room. But doesn’t it show off the quilts beautifully? It was suggested by local quilt designer Lynn Schiefelbein of Oak Street Quilts. This is the same color her sewing studio is painted. AND it is the same color as PBS’s sewing studio.

Here is the first video I did in the new sewing studio…
