April is National Serger Month! If sergers scare you, April is the perfect month to get yours out of the box, give your serger a little love by having it serviced or start thinking about buying your very first serger.

Sergers can be very scary. Wether you picked one up at a garage sale, one was given to you, or maybe you bought one and never took it out of the box, there are many reasons people don’t use their sergers. Mostly its because they are scared of it.

Scared of a little ‘ol serger? Sounds a little silly doesn’t it? But it is true. We talk to people each week that own a serger and do not use it for one reason or another. They also say they do not know what to use it for.

Heirloom Creations is the only store in the area that offers scheduled beginning serger classes.

We have found if serger owners take just one class they will find a new bond and friendship with their serger they need knew was possible. Check out the current class schedule for the next set of serger classes and workshops.

Sergers are the “microwave” of the sewing room. They will save you time and make your sewing more efficient. Just like a microwave we also do not use it for everything. (We do not cook Thanksgiving dinner in it)! We will teach you when and how the best times are to use a serger to help speed up the sewing project. It also will make your seams look 10 times more professional. And if you are sewing a knits or anything stretchy, a serger is a MUST.

Did you know we have a serger master on staff? Click here to meet Sara Snuggerud, a serger master since she was 15 years old!

Between her hands-on classes, her serger YouTube videos and the debut of her serger Craftsy/BluPrint class, there is no excuse for not taking advantage of the expertise right here in your area.

With the release of Sara’s Blueprint Serger class “Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques” many people have been asking why she selected the Bernina 1150MDA to use on set? The main reason this brand and model were selected was because it was the quietest serger we have. She knew there would be times when she would be talking while running the serger. She did not want there to be any extra background noise than necessary for the camera crew to deal with.

Did you know you can even quilt on a serger?

Sara’s 1-Hour Serger Quilt video has been viewed over 100K times!

If you have leftover batting and fabric strips approximately 6″ side, this can be the perfect baby quilt or charity quilt. And a serger makes it go twice as fast. This quilt-as-you-go method is super easy and can be completed by even a beginner serger owner. Click here to download the 1-Hour Serger Quilt pattern.

Go Behind the Scenes

Here is a behind the scenes look at what it took to film the “Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques” Craftsy/Bluprint class.

Sergers should not be scary. Check out Sara’s serger Craftsy class and all the serger videos over at SewingMastery.com to help you find the love you and your serger have been missing.

Visit Heirloom Creations during the month of April or any month to experience why you NEED to add a serger in your sewing studio.

Hi Sara and Heirloom Creations. I used to live in Cooperstown, ND and stop at your store on my way to Memphis. I clearly remember one day I was in SF for an assessor’s training and there were five ND ladies in the store. I have always enjoyed your selection of fabrics, your choice of books, the friendly staff and the willingness to share information. I moved to Fargo and continued to visit and shop and even ordered over the phone. I have now moved to FL, continue to get your emails. Was delighted to see that you were doing a serger class on Craftsy. Now I can have Sara in my home everyday. Thank you for taking the time to create this class. My daughter in Ohio is wanting a serger for Christmas and this class will be a gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Hello Sara,
My husband wants to get me a Serger for Christmas. I would mostly want it for seams – nicer finishes etc. I see the Bernina 800DL and the Bernina 1150MDA above. Can you give me a price on them? How about a used one? Are they worth getting used?
    Thanks,
    Jane Barz

    1. Sara says:

Hi Jane, If you are in the Sioux Falls area or can get to Heirloom Creations, please call our store for pricing on all the Bernina sergers. 605-332-4435. If you are not in our area, please contact your local Bernina dealer. Since you are going to have a serger for a really long time, it is up to you whether you purchase new or used. It is nice to purchase new because your classes and full warranty comes with a new serger purchase. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas! ~Sara~
