As sewers we know what it means to have quality tools at our finger tips. Do a favor for your favorite graduate or new bride by giving them an assortment of quality sewing items that everyone should have. Choose the items yourself and pick the quality that you would appreciate. They will thank you over and over the first time they reach into their treasure chest of sewing items to fix a hem or to sew on a button. (Their roommates or future husbands will thank you too!)
First, a word of caution: DO NOT buy one of those sewing kits readily found in chain stores. Yes, they look pretty, but have you tried using any of the items? I watched in horror as one of my students showed up at her summer kids quilting camp with one of those sewing kits. She quickly found out her scissors barely cut thread and the pins were too small even for her fingers!
Here is a list of items we recommend for the perfect sewing box.
