The Church Lady Sewing Machine – Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118

We Carry
by Sara Snuggerud in Sewing Machines

A few years back we started to have church groups coming to us and asking which machine would be best to purchase for the type of sewing they do. We find many sewing groups sew quilts out of denim and the lovely polyester double knit fabrics that they get donated. These two fabrics can be tough on some older machines and not fun to sew on at all.

After examining our entire line up of machines, we select the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 to be the machine of choice. We had to pick a machine that those die-hard sewers could not wear out, break and could hold up to anything.

Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118

We picked this model because it is very durable, it can handle heavy-duty fabrics such as denim and be able to run for hours on end. Think about it. When ladies get together to sew, they probably come prepared with blocks all cut out and fabric neatly stacked. They sit down to those machines and power sew for the day. Yes, they will stop to chat and for coffee, but I bet if we walked into the rooms those machines are set to full speed! Those ladies might drive on the highway slow, but I can see them each having a lead foot when they sew.

For those ladies that don’t have a lead foot, the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 has a speed control. This can help them keep a nice even speed without the machine racing off.

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 also has my favorite feature which is needle up and down. This allows the machine’s needle to always stop at the highest position or stop in the fabric. This time-saving feature helps when coming to the end of a row. At a touch of the button the needle to can be raised to the highest position without having to turn the hand wheel.

Along with a needle threader and an easy to reload drop in bobbin, this truly is the perfect machine for these power sewers.

Because of this machine’s strength and features, the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 sewing machine is Heirloom Creations’ rental machine model. We keep two of these machines ready to go when someone needs a sewing machine for a weekend project. This machine was once again selected because we know it can handle any crazy sewing project, thick or thin, that gets thrown at it! We charge $12 a day or $72 a week. Since people usually fall in love with this machine when they rent it, we often apply their rental payment toward the purchase of a new machine when they come back to return it. They get to experience how cool this machine is and then they want one of their own.

We have posted 20 free tutorial videos on the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 sewing machine.

Another less expensive version of the original “Church Lady” sewing machine is the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116. The main difference is that it does not have a speed control, needle up and down button and has two less stitches. It is usually about a $100 less. If churches are looking to purchase a few more machines, this model helps stretch the budgeted dollars a bit further.

Here is one more reason you want to have this machine! Even football equipment managers use them on the sidelines. Click here to watch the video: HERE On ESPN
